Here are several tips for attendees planning to visit the Canton Fair:

  1. Preparation and Registration: Before you go, ensure you have all the relevant documentation. You can pre-register online, which will save you time on arrival. Remember to apply for a Chinese visa well in advance.
  2. Travel and Accommodation: It is a good idea to book your flights and hotels early as prices can skyrocket close to the dates of the fair and availability becomes scarce.
  3. Language: While there is considerable English usage at the fair, not everyone will be fluent. If you don’t speak Mandarin, consider hiring an interpreter to assist with negotiations and communications.
  4. Plan Your Visit: The fair is enormous, so review the map and exhibitor list beforehand. Plan which booths you want to visit and prioritize your time accordingly.
  5. Business Cards: Bring plenty of business cards. It’s customary to exchange them when you meet someone new in a business context in China.
  6. Negotiation: When negotiating with potential suppliers, be clear about your requirements and budget. It’s common to negotiate prices and terms in China, so don’t accept the first offer without discussion.
  7. Samples: If you’re interested in a product, ask for samples to check the quality. It might also be possible to negotiate small trial orders.
  8. Electronic Devices: Carry an electronic device such as a smartphone or tablet. These can be valuable for on-the-spot research, taking notes, and showing images or specifications for products you’re interested in.
  9. Networking: Take advantage of the networking opportunities present. You can meet a lot of potential business partners and make valuable contacts during the fair.
  10. Health and Stamina: Wear comfortable shoes and be prepared for a lot of walking. Stay hydrated and take regular breaks.
  11. Legal and Compliance: Ensure that any products you’re interested in meet the legal standards and compliance requirements for your home country.
  12. Cultural Sensitivity: Be aware of cultural differences in business practices and communication. Showing respect and understanding can go a long way in establishing successful business relationships.
